Study Finds Excess of Folic Acid in Pregnant Women Can Lead to Food Allergies in Children

Doctors have urged women to take folic acid before getting pregnant and to continue taking it during pregnancy to prevent neural tube birth defects and serious problems like spina bifida. But if a woman consumes too much it stays in her system, and Doreen Gentzler reports researchers in Boston have discovered excess folic acid in late stages of pregnancy can be passed along to babies in the womb, which may increase their risk for developing food sensitivities and allergies.
