Undy 5000: Pantless Fundraiser

Help Save Lives... Without any Pants On!

Finally, a (legal) reason to run around without any pants on!

Undy 5000, a 5K run/walk hosted by the Colon Cancer Alliance, returns to the District for a day of advocacy, fundraising pantless fun.

Drawing attention to their derrières, and to the disease itself, runners and walkers are encouraged to participate in the 3.1-mile race in their underwear. Upon registration, participants receive a commemorative pair of Undy 5000 boxers. More modest sorts need not to worry, as the almost-bare look is actually completely optional.

The event, also held in 12 other cities this year, emphasizes the importance of early screening and detection measures that can be taken against the colon cancer, which is the second-leading cause of cancer deaths in the country.

Funds from the family-friendly event go toward building the Colon Cancer Alliance's programs for patient support and public awareness. Other funds will help sustain support services at the Mary Crowley Cancer Research Centers.

Participants can register online until 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 2.There will be no on-site registration.

The race begins at 7:40 a.m. at West Potomac Park (west of 17th Street and south of Constitution Avenue NW). A survivor ceremony will be held, with awards distributed at 9:15 a.m.
