BUDGET AIR CARRIERS HELPING BWI BREAK PASSENGER RECORDS
Washington Examiner: "Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport continues to post record-breaking numbers of passengers flying through its terminals, airports officials said Monday.
The airport, one of three major hubs serving the Washington region, has been buoyed by budget airlines Southwest Airlines and AirTran Airways.
Southwest carried 1.09 million passengers out of the total 1.99 million to travel through BWI’s gates in October. The airline recently announced plans to expand its presence at the airport in the spring with two new routes to Charleston and Greenville-Spartanburg in South Carolina."
DOZENS OF DOGS RESCUED FROM CALVERT HOUSE FIRE
Washington Post: "When the firefighters arrived at the burning house in Southern Maryland early Sunday, they could hear the cries coming from inside. It "sounded like children," said Jonathan Riffe, chief of the Huntingtown Volunteer Fire Department.
That sent firefighters into the house on a rescue mission, Riffe said. And they made rescues - many of them. But not necessarily the kind they expected when they arrived at the house in Calvert County.
Riffe, who was at the scene, said 129 dogs had been trapped in the house at the time of the fire. Firefighters managed to bring 125 out alive and four died of smoke inhalation, he said."
DC9 WEBSITE: CLUB WILL BE OPEN ON DEC. 15
DCist: "A quick peek at DC9's website this afternoon reveals that the club is indeed planning to be open on December 15, the first day it will be allowed to conduct business since being shut down after the death of Ali Ahmed Mohammed on October 15. In a hearing on December 1, the District's Alcohol Control Board ruled that the club could reopen after hearing about new security installations and instituting some special conditions on the club's staff.
There is no information about any acts performing at the club on the 15th, but the website does note an opening time of 9 p.m. that evening. A few other events have been booked at the club through the beginning of February."
ABRAMOFF CONCLUDES STINT AT KOSHER PIZZERIA
WTOP: "Jack Abramoff's nearly six-month stint working at a kosher pizzeria has come to an end.
The disgraced Washington lobbyist picked up his final paycheck from Tov Pizza on Dec. 3, owner Ron Rosenbluth said Monday. That was his official release date from the U.S. Bureau of Prisons. He's now serving three years of probation.
Abramoff was released from federal prison June 8 but was on home confinement until the official end of his four-year sentence for fraud, corruption and conspiracy. He wore an electronic monitoring bracelet."
