Policy Debuts With Style, Substance

One of life’s best indulgences is perhaps when we can get everything we want in one place. Sometimes we need a cocktail but also in dire need of a great meal and a little lounging with friends couldn’t hurt either. The much anticipated Policy Restaurant & Lounge (PolicyDC.com) has found a way to achieve that with a phenomenal menu to satisfy foodies and a serious lounge scene to hold your attention, sans the glow sticks thank you very much.

Sandwiched in the U Street Corridor & 14th street, the first floor has a very retro-chic feel with swanky, red vinyl booths and a vintage black tin ceiling. The man in the kitchen, Chef Brian Murphy (formerly of L’Auberge Chez Rancois & Palena) is creating interesting plates for this destination dining spot. You won’t be caught in a sea of cookie cutter dishes here. Ease into Kobe hot dogs, a plate of chilled Wagyu sirloin or a dish of Maine sweet shrimp risotto. Afterwards head upstairs to the second level for a nightcap or two or three. Bright splashes of color from graffiti-painted walls, plush banquettes and dozens of multicolored chandeliers set the stage for a wonderland of lounging. Bottle service comes complete with a gorgeous table-side cocktail attendant and a DJ spins from a booth next to the bar. There is no dance floor but plenty of people-watching to keep you occupied.

Dinner is served beginning at 5 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday and the bar stays open late. Brunch is served on Sundays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
