Speak Softly and Wear Big Shoes

A fave local shoe-tique opens a new Bethesda spot

Sometimes you just need to let your feet do the talking. And they're probably not saying much in those flip-flops except "we're getting a lot of sidewalk gunk on us."

We're really not ones to dis a good ol' pair of flops, but we also admit that sometimes a girl just needs to speak softly and wear a big pair of shoes. Local boutique ShoeFly has been brightening up the lives -- and wardrobes -- of the sartorially ambitious in Clarendon and U Street for a few years now, but now the people of Bethesda have a reason to rejoice as well. The third location of ShoeFly is now open on 4731 Elm St. (301-656-SHOE) from 10-8 Monday-Saturday 10-8 and 11-7 on Sundays.

Sink your feet into a buttery pair of Seychelles (around $80 for a pair of Mary Janes that aren't so schoolgirl, but still office-appropriate) or blow your bank account on a pair of knee-high Fryes that will likely last a lifetime.

ShoeFly specializes in the bright, the mod and the downright weird -- lots of name brands, but in styles you're just not gonna find amidst the cream-colored display racks at Nordstrom. Think caution-sign yellow gladiator sandals and red pumps with giraffe-patterned heels. Sidewalk gunk knows to never, ever touch these babies.
