The Super Bowl is know for its expensive, creative and sometimes suggestive commercials – but a new ad from animal rights group PETA has been deemed too racy to broadcast during the big game.
According to PETA spokesperson Michael McGraw, the animal rights group was sent an email from NBC standards that took issue with the suggestive produce poses.
“It’s ridiculous that this commercial was banned from NBC,” McGraw told Access “Sure, it’s sexy, sure it’s provocative… [But], the bottom line for this ad was that studies show that vegetarians have better sex.”
McGraw told Access that PETA was sent a detailed e-mail about cuts that would have to be made to the commercial if they wanted it to air.
“We got an email that was so sexually explicit it make PETA blush – which is hard to do – outlining several things that they’re insisting we remove from our TV spot,” he said.
According to McGraw, the network wanted most of the suggestive situations to be edited out.
”[As] far as PETA’s concerned, this was perfectly appropriate for the Super Bowl,” McGraw added.
PETA said they are now approaching other networks about possibly running the pro-veggie ad.
NBC Sports executives told Access Hollywood Tuesday in Tampa, “Yes, we did reject the ad.”
