Maoz Moves In

Maoz, a quick service vegetarian restaurant focusing on falafel, will continue its overseas expansion by opening a store in D.C.

According to Washington Business Journal, Quinn Wallis, a local entrepenuer, bought the rights to the Maoz franchise in D.C., Maryland and Virginia. The D.C. restaurant, the first to open in the area, will be located at 1817 M St. NW.

When the article was first written, Wallis anticipated opening the restaurant in the next six to seven months, meaning we can expect the restaurant to be up and functioning sometime in April or May.

For around $8, residents and working professionals near M Street will be able to enjoy a falafel-filled pita, and garnish it with whatever they please from the buffet of toppings. Those familiar with Amsterdam Falafel will understand the general concept. Like that Adams Morgan late-night staple, Maoz is strictly vegetarian. No word on whether it will share the same late hours.

Maoz got its start in Amsterdam, and successfully spread stores throughout Holland. The franchise continued to open stores throughout Europe, focusing largely on tourist spots and locations with high levels of foot traffic in cities like Barcelona and Paris. Maoz finally hopped the pond and made its American launch in Philadelphia. The restaurant has five other stores in the United States, including three locations in in New York, and a store opening in Florida.
