Icy Conditions Send Area Drivers Spinning

Howling winds expected later today

Icy patches on the road Sunday sent many drivers skidding along the Beltway and other roads in DC, Maryland and Virginia. 

Here's a quick look at roads that have been affected:

  • Several ramps and on 495 and other highways in the area have slick and icy conditions that have caused several fender benders.  No serious injuries have been reported.

  • King St. eastbound to I-395 northbound: Police in Alexandria reported a seven-car pileup early Sunday morning on the ramp from King St. eastbound. The ramp was shut down.

  • BW Parkway at Route 195 is still closed from a weather-related accident. Motorists must take any exits before Rt.195.

  • GW Parkway southbound: U. S. Park Police confirmed that the southbound lanes were blocked due to a serious accident at GW Parkway and Golf Branch Rd. All lanes were blocked off and traffic was diverted to Rt. 123.
