Rayva Khanna recounts the terrifying moment when she and a classmate were struck by a car. The Georgetown students were crossing with the light when asedan plowed into them and then drove away. Police are looking for the driver. News4’s Pat Collins reports.
Police are searching for a driver who hit two Georgetown medical students and then immediately drove away.
Rayva Khanna, 22, and a fellow student were walking about 7 p.m. on Sept. 5 from the Tenleytown Libary to grab food after a study session. They were crossing Wisconsin Avenue NW with the light when a black sedan turned left and slammed into both of them. Dramatic video released by police shows the shocking collision.
"I remember her face looking at me. Cause I... She knew. She registered we were gonna be hit," Khanna said. "I remember her saying my name and seeing the terror on her face."
"It was traumatizing to see her like that," Khanna said.
The driver of the sedan momentarily slowed before continuing south on Wisconsin Avenue, video shows.
Khanna said her classmate was worried she would be paralyzed. Both of them missed a few days of classes but are doing fine.
"I just hope that he isn't allowed to drive like that anymore," Khanna said. "Right now, he's probably still driving."
Police haven't identified a suspect. There is a $1,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest and conviction in the case.
