Film lovers unite! Washington D.C.’s International Film Festival is launching its 23rd year, featuring more than 70 D.C. premieres, with films from over 15 countries.
Running from now to April 26, Filmfest DC will open with Departures, the first Japanese festival entry to ever win a Best Foreign Film Oscar.
Filmfest DC brings the finest in contemporary world cinema to the nation's capital. The festival has introduced more than 1,000 feature and short films from 55 countries to an ever-growing audience. The 11-day annual festival presents more than 100 feature premieres, restored classics and special events to the general public. All Filmfest DC presentations are Washington, D.C., premieres.
The films offer a rare opportunity to see an unbiased-by-media look into other cultures from the perspective of those who live there. This year the international film festival will focus on Eastern Europe and Japan, although there will be more than 15 other countries represented in this years' spread, to include the Bahamas, Belgium, Canada, Czech Republic, Egypt, France, Greece, Pakistan, Palestine, Senegal, Serbia, Tunisia, Turkey, Spain, Switzerland and the U.S.
An opening night gala will take place at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Harman Center for the Arts, 610 F St. NW. Tickets for this event are $45.
Tickets for each film are about $10, but can be purchased in bulk for a discount.
