NBC Washington's Jim Vance Getting Treatment for Cancer

WASHINGTON — Longtime NBC Washington anchor Jim Vance told viewers Thursday evening that he is undergoing treatment for cancer, but will continue to work at the station when he can.

Addressing some viewers’ concerns about his recent absences, Vance said, “So I have been getting that treatment, and I have been coming into work with my partners here whenever I can, and I shall continue to do that. In fact, I will insist on doing that.”

He added, “In the meantime, I’m doing OK.”

Vance, 75, said that doctors told him he had cancer several weeks ago, but did not specify what type of cancer he has.

He has been with the station for more than 40 years.

“I love what I do,” Vance told viewers.
