Mount Vernon Estate CEO to Step Down at End of Year

MOUNT VERNON, Va. (AP) — The president and CEO of George Washington’s Mount Vernon estate is stepping down from the post at the end of the year.

Sixty-four-year-old Curtis Viebranz (VEE’-branz) has been Mount Vernon’s president since 2012, when he took over from James Rees.

Mount Vernon said Monday that Viebranz is stepping down to return to private life, and that it is beginning its search for a successor.

More than 1 million people visit Mount Vernon, which is privately run, every year.

The estate opened a presidential library that is home to visiting scholars during Viebranz’s tenure. Mount Vernon also expanded its digital and new media initiatives.
