COLLEGE PARK, Md. (AP) — Authorities say a College Park man has been sentenced to more than 8 years in prison for fraudulently claiming roughly $7.7 million in tax refunds.
Charles W. Parker Jr. was sentenced Monday to 97 months in prison followed by three years of supervised release. Parker was convicted in November of conspiring to file false federal income tax returns and filing false tax returns.
Officials say the 49-year-old collected financial information from clients he recruited and paid a co-conspirator to prepare false tax returns for himself and others. Authorities say 14 false tax returns were filed over a 6 month period and the IRS issued two fraudulent tax returns as a result, totaling more than $2 million.
Parker was also ordered to pay more than $2 million in restitution.
