DISTRICT HEIGHTS, Md. (AP) — Police are investigating after two people were killed in a shooting in Maryland.

Police in Prince George’s County say they were called early Thursday for a report of gunshots in the 600 block of Atwood Street in District Heights. Police say when they arrived they found two adult men lying on the ground in an apartment complex parking lot and suffering from gunshot wounds. Police say both men were pronounced dead at the scene.

Police identified the men as 34-year-old Phillip Michael of the District of Columbia and 31-year-old Kenneth Edmonds of District Heights. Police say a preliminary investigation reveals that there were two groups of people outside having a verbal altercation when gunshots erupted.
