Road Trip! Richmond Folk Festival: Food, Music, Culture

Road trip time! Celebrate the sounds of the season with the Richmond Folk Festival, coming up Oct. 7-9.

The Richmond Folk Festival features more than 30 bands on seven stages. Not only is it three days' worth of music, but it's also free. Along with the nonstop music, the festival will also host dance performances, a Virginia Folklife demonstration area, kids' activities, a folk arts marketplace and regional and ethnic foods.

And then there's the food. If the 32 food vendors don't satisfy you, then the food demos just might. Learn how to make fried dried apple pies, Mexican barbacoa and stuffed grape leaves, and bake bread with Barbara Gillespie, owner of Grateful Bread in Floyd, Virginia. You'll also find craft beer tents placed around the waterfront.

The festival runs:

  • Friday, Oct. 7, 6-10 p.m.
  • Saturday, Oct. 8, noon-10 p.m.
  • Sunday, Oct. 9, noon-6 p.m.

Free parking and shuttles are available from City Stadium. The festival is located at 3201 Maplewood Ave. in Richmond, Virginia, about two and a half hours from downtown D.C.
