Viewpoint: Free Minds Book Club & Writing Workshop

For the past 4 years, NBC4 has been awarding grants to local non- profits that work on bold new ideas to move our communities forward. The 21st Century Solutions grants are given in 4 categories Media Arts & Technology, Civic Engagement, Jobs & Economic Empowerment and Education and Environment. The grants total $100,000 and go to three non-profits. This year’s top winner is Free Minds Book Club & Writing Workshop. It steers young inmates, most of them teenage boys, onto positive paths, giving them an alternative to the actions and decisions that have led to their incarceration.
