Weather Alert: Thunderstorms, Rain Early Wednesday Morning

Severe thunderstorms are possible early Wednesday morning as an unsettled weather pattern moves out of the D.C. area.

Areas of rain will continue through the morning. Then, prepare for a breezy and warm afternoon with highs near 80 degrees.

Rain and thunderstorms with strong winds rolled over parts of the D.C. area Tuesday afternoon and a second round hit overnight.

Severe storms moved through Culpeper County, Spotsylvania County, St. Mary's County and parts of Charles County from about 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. Around 5:15 a.m., parts of D.C. and Prince George's County were under a severe thunderstorm alert.

During the storm, a tree fell onto Brandywine Street NW in D.C.

Any storms could pack a punch with strong winds, gusting up to 60 mph, hail and downpours, Storm Team4 Meteorologist Amelia Draper says.

There will be another chance of storms between midnight Tuesday and sunrise Wednesday. After that, the skies will dry out and things will heat up. Highs will get close to 80 degrees on Wednesday.
