Light snow and sleet is possible tonight in the D.C. area as the intense winter storm that ground the Midwest to a halt Thursday and Friday heads our way.
But don't break the shovels out yet: Storm Team4 meteorologists say we will see little or no accumulation.
The storm paralyzed Missouri, Kansas, and neighboring states as it swept through there. Numerous accidents and two deaths were blamed on the icy, slushy roadways. State legislatures shut down in Kansas, Missouri, Arkansas, Nebraska and Iowa. Most schools were closed in Kansas and Missouri, and many in neighboring states.
Kansas City, Mo. declared a state of emergency as snow fell at a rate of 2.5 inches an hour.

In our area, Storm Team4 Meteorologist Tom Kierein said the light flurries will strengthen somewhat but will not lead to significant snow.
There may be light sleet and some snow in the evening and tonight. The precipitation will melt on most roads during the evening, but streets may ice overnight.
Counties in Western Maryland and in the central and southern Shenandoah Valley are under a winter weather advisory, and may see about an inch of accumulation overnight.
