We have a soggy few days ahead of us -- but it's all for a good cause.
This season has been abnormally dry, said NBC4 Meteorologist Tom Kierein, and we have a rain deficit of about four inches. The area will receive much-needed moisture throughout the week ahead, with on-and-off rain showers and storms expected nearly every day through Friday.
Some areas received 0.5 inches of rain Monday, though only 0.03 inches was reported at Reagan National Airport.
There will be chances for showers and possibly thunderstorms again Tuesday and Wednesday. No severe weather is expected, but storms could produce locally heavy downpours. The rain could continue Thursday and possibly in to Friday.
Expect fog, drizzle and showers Tuesday morning, with showers and potentially storms following. High temperatures could approach 80 degrees.
The good news? The weather for Memorial Day Weekend looks to be shaping up nicely. Kierein said you can expect excellent beach weather, with plenty of sunshine and temps in the 80s.
We just have to suffer a little in the meantime.
