Thousands of outages have been reported across the region, with at least two people being rescued from their home in Burke, Virginia, when a large tree fell on their home.
Potomac Edison reported more than 3,000 outages in Maryland and Dominion Power reporter nearly 4,000 outages in Northern Virginia, including almost 1,500 outages in Loudoun County.
With the ground saturated with water, downed trees or power lines and power outages are possible, Storm Team4 Meteorologist Somara Theodore says.
A high wind warning is in effect for Frederick County, Maryland from 1 p.m. Sunday until 10 a.m. Monday, and the National Weather Service issued a wind advisory starting Sunday at 3 p.m. for the rest of the region.
The winds are also part of major winter swings over the next few days, as temperatures warm up for Sunday morning into the upper 60s before a cold front moves in, kicking up winds. Damaging gusts could stick around into Tuesday.
