The National Weather Service's winter weather advisory Monday morning signaled the beginning of the next cold spell in the D.C. region.

The brief respite from the cold weather over the weekend didn't last long, as much colder air has move into our region. It will be in place into next weekend, according to NBC Washington meteorologist Tom Kierein.
An upper level disturbance will trigger passing snow showers today, which may accumulate up to 1 inch through midday -- mostly on grassy areas. It will be cloudy, windy and cold in the afternoon with highs in the mid-30s and winds gusting up to 35 mph.
Strong, gusty winds will occur today through Wednesday, and high temperatures will only be around 30 degrees. That's more than 15 degrees colder than the average this time of year.
Tuesday will be partly sunny, windy and colder with highs in the upper 20s to low 30s and wind chills of 5 to 15 degrees.
Wednesday also will be very cold and windy with highs in the upper 20s to low 30s and winds gusting to 30 mph.
