Mother Nature has a trick in store for Halloween in the D.C. area.

Showers will affect some of Wednesday evening's commute and — and if you're watching Game 7 of the World Series at an outdoor watch party, bring the rain gear.

Storm Team4 has declared a Weather Alert for Thursday due to a potentially dangerous weather situation unfolding.

Between 4 and 11 p.m. Thursday, a line of storms will move through the area from west to east. The biggest concern will be gusty, damaging winds up to 40 to 50 mph and very heavy rain. Winds this strong will bring down some trees. In addition to strong winds and heavy rain, lightning is possible, along with an isolated weak tornado.

Temps will be mild — in the low to mid 70s, about 10 degrees warmer than average. During the day Thursday, expect a few spotty showers with cloudy skies and windy conditions.

Our advice to trick-or-treaters: Stay weather-ready and get out early, around 4 p.m. Have a weather plan in place, so if inclement weather does move into your neighborhood, you can move to safety quickly and efficiently.

Our warm and wet October will quickly turn into a cold and dry November. We will be in the mid-50s by sunrise Friday, and temperatures will hold there through the afternoon. After sunset Friday, temperatures will fall into the 40s.
