Yes, it's May -- but there's a chance you'll need your winter coat and an ice scraper for your car Tuesday morning.

We are so sorry about this.

The National Weather Service issued a freeze warning and a frost advisory for early Tuesday morning for parts of Maryland and Virginia north, west and southwest of the District.

Some areas may see frost early Tuesday morning, especially on grass and vegetation, Storm Team4 Chief Meteorologist Doug Kammerer said. Frost may also be visible on cars, so have that ice scraper ready just in case.

The freeze warning and frost advisory are in effect until 9 a.m. Tuesday.

Areas in Maryland with a frost advisory include:

    • Carroll County
    • Frederick
    • Howard County
    • Montgomery County
    • Washington County

Areas in Virginia with a frost advisory include:

    • Clarke County
    • Town of Culpeper
    • Greene County
    • Loudoun County
    • Madison County
    • Town of Orange
    • Page County
    • Rappahannock County
    • Shenandoah County
    • Warren County
    • City of Winchester

Areas in Maryland with a freeze warning include:

    • Allegany County

It's going to be chilly Monday night -- temperatures will be in the mid to upper 30s in these regions of Maryland and Virginia. Storm Team4 expects D.C.-s temperatures to hover in the low to mid 40s overnight and into Tuesday morning. You may need your winter coat as you head out for your morning commute.

Even though this is unusual for our area this time of the year, D.C.'s Monday night low is nowhere near the record low, which was 34 degrees back in 1947.

Monday night saw the coldest temperatures of the week, with temperatures warming up as the week goes on. However, Storm Team4 predicts that it will be very cool and rainy at the end of the week and into the weekend.

Storm Team4 is also tracking what could become a nor'easter during Mother's Day weekend. Heavy rain is expected between Friday night and Saturday.
