Another Night in the Deep Freeze

Some people - believe it or not - got tired of the warm indoors and chose to head outside Saturday night. News4's Darcy Spencer reports from Georgetown.

Brutally cold temperatures and winds have brought feels-like temperatures into the single digits Saturday, but Storm Team4 says there is an end in sight.

Winds will gust up to 35 mph at times during the day on Saturday.

A wind chill advisory is in effect from 6 p.m. Saturday until 6 a.m. Sunday.

Wind chills Saturday night will range from 0 to -10, so make sure to dress warmly and limit time outdoors. With wind chills this low frostbite is possible in 30 minutes.

By Sunday, the Artic air will start to retreat, the winds will be calmer and highs will warm into the mid to upper 20s.

On Monday, highs will be in the mid to upper 30s and there is the chance for some rain later in the day. If rain moves into the region with temperatures of roads and sidewalks still below freezing, the evening commute on Monday could be messy with concerns for some ice.

The cold can be deadly. D.C. is giving access to overnight warming sites, emergency shelters and transportation to warmth and safety. To request transportation to shelter for anyone in D.C. who is experiencing homelessness, contact the toll-free Shelter Hotline at 202-399-7093, or call 311.
