Annapolis Mayor Declares State of Emergency

With Hurricane Irene rapidly approaching, Annapolis Mayor Joshua Cohen has declared a state of emergency.

Cohen is urging the evacuation of low-lying areas by Saturday afternoon. Annapolis police and fire officials will go door-to-door contacting residents and the Office of Emergency Management will be calling those in potential flood zones.

Residents leaving the city can park their cars in any of the four city garages for free.

The Annapolis High School will open as a pet-friendly shelter at 4 p.m. Saturday.
