The winner of Pat Collins' March 2017 Snow Stick Challenge knows exactly how to turn a spring storm into a pot of gold.
Nicholas Barney, 10, a 4th-grader at St. Agnes School in Arlington, Virginia, and his mom Lisa collaborated on this lovely leprechaun tableau complete with painted-snow rainbow, green flowers, a red "beard" and a sign that reads "Shamrockers Gather Here."

It was the creativity and commitment to the challenge's St. Patrick's Day theme that wowed our judges, a panel of News4 experts: Melissa Mollet, Sheena Parveen and Darcy Spencer.
"Proud of my Irish heritage!" Lisa wrote in the caption of her winning submission.
Tuesday, News4's Pat Collins took his trusty Snow Stick (follow the Stick on Twitter here) down to the intersection of Connecticut Avenue and Fessenden Street Tuesday.

First, he spent a little time with D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser, who measured the snow for Pat. It clocked in at 3 inches on the Snow Stick.
Then, Pat issued his challenge: Show St. Patrick's Day spirit in the snow.
The most creative pose would be honored with a replica Pat Collins Snow Stick, which has measured blizzards in the D.C. area for decades.
The submissions were immediate and creative. Seems no one will miss a chance to goof off in the snow!
