- Chance of flurries Thursday
- Sunshine Friday
- Weekend: sprinkles & light snow
- Polar plunge next week
We are going to have a few chances for flurries and light snow over the next few days before we get our first visit from the polar vortex in years.
Slightly milder air will push a warm front through our area Thursday leading to mostly cloudy skies and a chance for some late-day flurries. Snow accumulations, if you get any at all, will only be enough to whiten the ground once again. No travel issues will result and schools will be open on Friday.
Most areas will be about 5° warmer than Wednesday but, without any sunshine, it won't feel much different. At least the wind has settled down quite a bit. High pressure will allow skies to clear overnight and lead to a bright and sunny finish to the week.

It won't be "warm" on Friday, but most everyone will see temperatures above 40°.
Chance of precipitation for the weekend and cold plunge next week
The bitter cold air that we will be dealing with next week will be diving Southward over the Great Plains this weekend. As that happens moisture will get shoved up the East Coast this weekend. Plan for plenty of clouds on Saturday and Sunday with the risk of a flurry of snow or a sprinkle of rain at just about any time.
The most likely times to see a snow flurry will be on Saturday morning and then again on Sunday afternoon and evening. Raindrops will be most likely from late Saturday morning into early Saturday evening. Any rain on Saturday will be 1/10th of an inch or less. And snow late Sunday and Sunday night still looks like it will be an inch or less.
Monday will be sunny but bitter cold and quite windy. For the Inauguration at noon on Monday, plan for temperatures to be around 20° and for wind chills to be near 0°!
Daytime highs will be near 20° again on Tuesday and Wednesday with overnight lows (not including the wind chill) to fall between -5° and +8°! That bitter cold will relax as we head for the last weekend of January.
