Crashes and delays were reported across the D.C. area Monday after wintry weather left many area roads icy.

The mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain fell across the region for much of Sunday, and freezing temperatures left many area roads dangerously slick.

Several crashes were reported across the region Monday morning, but it's not clear if all of the crashes were weather related.

In Montgomery County, four vehicles were involved in a crash on Tucker Lane in Ashton, Maryland. Fire officials say one of the drivers lost control of their car, got out of the vehicle and was struck by another vehicle that also lost control.

Fire crews in D.C. had to remove the roof and door of an overturned van to rescue two people who were trapped inside.

The icy weather also prompted several school systems to open late Monday.

There will be another chance for wintry weather late Tuesday into Wednesday morning. Storm Team4 says the wintry mix could affect the morning commute.
