The Heat Is On: Heat Wave Settles in DC Area

Expect hot, sunny weather for the next few days

For those who like the sizzle of summer, the next few days are for you.

High pressure over the southeastern U.S. is going to be the dominating factor in the D.C. area's weather from now through the weekend. There will be one cool front arriving late Sunday or Monday that will briefly put a dent in the heat and humidity, but otherwise the mid-summer heat is on.

Skies are mostly sunny through Friday, and with the sunshine comes plenty of heat.

Winds from the northwest will keep humidity levels lower and more tolerable on Wednesday and Thursday, even as temperatures rise above 90 again.

On Friday, a front stationed across Pennsylvania will help to draw higher levels of humidity into the D.C. area. The added humidity, plus temps in the mid-90s, means a lot more sweating.

Most of the D.C. area isn't likely to see rain again until the weekend. As the heat and humidity build up later in the week, there could be some isolated, late afternoon storms. That chance is mainly confined to the Shenandoah Valley and northern Maryland on Friday.

Thinking ahead to the Fourth of July? It's looking hot and humid, too.
