Starting Wednesday, parking meter fees will increase by over 200 percent in some parts of the District.
Parking in "normal demand" parking areas will jump from 75 cents to $2.30 an hour. Meters in premium parking zones and commercial loading zones will increase from $2 per hour to $2.30.
Initially, D.C. Council planned to expand the hours in which driver were required to feed the meters, but a problem with how the expanded hours were calculated forced the council to rethink the plan.
The council eventually voted to roll back the hours from midnight to 10 p.m. but to increase the cost of parking meters.
It’s the first parking meter fee increase in several years, D.C. Council Chairman Phil Mendelson said last year.
