Headed to the National Mall? Don't drive -- take Metro, the transit agency says.
Metrorail will be available after the transit agency said there will be no track work on July 4. The trains will run until midnight.
The Smithsonian station is closest to the National Mall. However, Metro recommends that riders use other nearby stations to avoid crowds.
If you're traveling on the Yellow or Green line, Metro recommends exiting at the Archives station and walking to the Mall. If you're traveling on any other line, exit at Metro Center and walk, Metro says.
The National Mall entrance of the Smithsonian station will be an entrance-only station after 9:30 p.m. Monday. Entrance and exit will be allowed at the Independence Avenue exit all day.
To skip long lines at Metro vending machines, buy your fare in advance.
Metro said the trains will run on a Saturday schedule until about 2 p.m. and ramp up to near rush-hour service levels before and after the fireworks. Due to the expected large crowds, bicycles and coolers will not be permitted on the trains.
Metrobus is expected to run on a Saturday schedule as well, with detours around the National Mall.
SafeTrack work is expected to wrap up on Sunday on the Blue, Orange and Silver lines between Washington and Prince George’s County.
