Truck Carrying Mangoes Overturns on Beltway Outer Loop in Maryland

The crash caused a 7.5-mile backup

A truck carrying a load of mangoes overturned on the Outer Loop of the Capital Beltway Wednesday morning, leaving drivers stuck in serious traffic jams.

Cars were able to squeeze by the crash site on the Outer Loop just past the I-270 split. But a 7.5-mile backup slowed the morning commute.

The crash happened about 3 a.m. Maryland State Police say they will likely close all lanes to turn the trailer upright. It's unclear when crews will start that work.

Montgomery County Fire spokesperson Pete Piringer said one adult was evaluated. No injuries were reported.
