Microsoft Store Opens in Tysons Next Month

Microsoft Aiming to Follow Apple Store Model

The new Microsoft Store at Tysons Corner will celebrate its grand opening next month -- with a performance by tween fave Joe Jonas. Guess we know their targeted demo now.

In case you haven't noticed Microsoft stores before (the Apple Stores are just so shiiiiiny!!!), turns out there are currently 13 others around the country -- but the nearest to us right now is in Atlanta.

Microsoft is experimenting "in adapting the Apple retail model to Windows PCs rather than a core part of Microsoft's business model," according to Electronista.com. "That attitude is gradually changing, as Microsoft plans to have 75 new stores in the next two to three years."

And keep in mind that it won't be extremely close to the Apple store. Just... kind of close.

According to a mall directory, the Microsoft store will be located on the same floor as the Apple store, both relatively near the center of the mall, but on different sides of the bend in the floorplan.

The new store will sell Windows 7 PCs, Windows phones, Kinect for Xbox 360, Office 2010 and more, LoudounTimes.com reports.

The grand opening ceremony, at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 17, will include the distribution of up to $1 million in software grants to local groups. You can vote on the store's Facebook page to decide where the grants will do. Each vote will count toward a $20 donation. Potential recipients include the Foundation of Fairfax County Public Schools and the Children's Science Center.

Joe Jonas will perform at the store Saturday, Nov. 19.

And although he's pretty much for the super-young ones, Microsoft is also offering a back-to-school deal online right now. College students who buy a PC will also score a free Xbox 360.

If you're older than 22, though, keep dreaming.
