OK, lululemon athletica is getting a run for its money (and its lower-case style). lucy activewear is launching Fitness Fridays, when gym instructors and health reps pop into the luxe workout-gear store to teach free classes and share advice. lululemon is known for integrating local yoga instructors into its swanky shops -- hey, a free yoga class means customers will be more likely to buy a $98 pair of Be Still Pant*Ts, right? (We're never gonna get their grammar/spelling straight, are we?)
Fitness Fridays will be held at all DC-area locations of lucy the second Friday of each month, starting this week on May 15. Schedules will vary, but here are some details we picked up:
The lucy store at Arlington's Pentagon Row hosts Molly Donelan, a yoga and rock-climbing instructor from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Donelan will start with a yoga class and offer one-on-one consultations after that.
At the Union Station outpost of lucy, yogini Megan Riley will teach a class from 12:15-1 p.m. and then host an extended pranayama (breathing meditation) from 1:15-1:45 p.m.; she'll be on hand for questions/consultations through 4 p.m.
The Bethesda location will have two instructors from Washington Sports Club on-site from noon to 4 p.m. They haven't hammered down the scheduling for a yoga class yet (we'll check back later in the week), but you can take a Masala Bhandra class from 3:30 to 4 p.m. Not familiar with Masala Bhandra? That's OK, 'cause neither were we. A store employee defines it as an Indian dance-inspired workout, featuring a dhol drum mixed with hip-hop and reggae. Reps from Honest Tea will also be handing out samples of their leafy beverage during the afternoon.
