“McMansions” Rising in Woodley Park

After all the sound and fury over the summer about the subdivision of a lot on the corner of 29th and Garfield streets NW in Woodley Park, the neighbors' last-ditch appeal before the Board of Zoning Adjustment was denied, and the first of two giant single-family homes is under way – a reminder that neighborhood opposition can't stop good zoning lawyers.

Doesn't look like either of them have sold yet, so if you're in the market for a seven-bedroom, 5,479-square-foot house and have $2.295 million to spend on it, now's your chance.

Getting built anyway. (Lydia DePillis)
