Real Estate Rollercoaster: NoVa Up, Rest of Region Down

In what seems to be the latest in the ups and downs of a market that can't seem to decide if it's at bottom, we now have more numbers to add confusion in a time already filled with high anxiety.

If you just read the headlines, you would think we are fully on the way to recovery. Northern Virginia home sales have been up 10 percent to 5 percent since February of this year, over the prior years month. However,  when you look at the median home price, you see a different story. Prices have been falling consistently since February by 23 percent to 7 percent.

I don't know about you, but that would worry me if I owned a home in NoVa.

At least with DC and Montgomery County, Md., home sales and median home prices are in the negative.

If you want more details on the local housing numbers, The Washington Business Journal is a good place to get them.
