Last week was a good one for the Capitol Riverfront, D.C.’s trying to be happenin’, new riverfront/ballpark neighborhood. News broke that the neighborhood would host Artomatic from late May to July. Plus, the city held its official groundbreaking for Diamond Teague Park, one of several new green spaces that will eventually line the river’s edge.
But alas, Feb. 16-20 may not be as kind to the Capitol Riverfront as Feb. 9-13. This morning, some unfortunate news rolled through my Google Reader.
Washington Business Journalreports that construction has been halted on the first residential section of The Yards. Also Dogfish Head Alehouse is, apparently, no longer interested in opening up a new location nearby.

Forest City Washington started transforming a former Navy industrial building into 170 loft apartments last year but recently called off the construction crews thanks to, you guessed it, a lack of financing — in this case an inability of the D.C. Housing Finance Agency to sell bonds for the subsidized units. The project, Foundry Lofts, was due to deliver in the spring of 2010.
“It’s just kind of a product of the credit market,” says Ramsey Meiser of Forest City.
He says work continues on a waterfront park and landing retailers for the 44-acre, multiyear project, but sources say Dogfish Head Alehouse, once in discussions to open on the waterfront, is no longer interested. Meiser was silent on the matter.
