Season of the Dog Happy Hour Begins

Fur kids headed to Jackson 20

Cherry blossoms, longer days... and getting drunk with your dog? Yep, warm weather in the D.C. area means more animal-friendly happy hours than you can shake a stick at -- and when we stay "stick," we mean that cool springy kind that launches tennis balls for The Leashed One.

Jackson 20 (480 King St., Alexandria) kicks off the Season of the Canine today in its courtyard. The happy hour runs through October, on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5 to 8 p.m.

The fur kids can socialize while the Beings Who Open the Cans get to eat tavern bites from Jackson 20's new spring bar menu. Noshes include soft pretzels with pimento cheese and brown mustard ($9), house-made tater tots with a trio of ketchups ($6) and shrimp fritters with comeback sauce ($8). And no feeding your dog under the table! If you're full, give the rest of it to us.

Some reminders if you go...

  • All dogs must be monitored and on a six-foot leash at all times.
  • Each attendee can bring a maximum of two dogs. Additional dogs require separate handlers.
  • All dogs must carry a current rabies tag.
