If you’ve got a special someone you’d like to treat to a romantic dinner but can’t seem to find a classy yet affordable place, look no further. We’ve found you a hole-in-the-wall spot that invites you to a dazzling dinner for two and a bottle of wine for a mere $26.
Every Monday and Wednesday, Hector’s Place Ristorante, located on Mt. Vernon Avenue in Alexandria, Va., offers a special dinner for two for only $26. The dinner for two includes any two entrees, plus two house salads with Italian dressing, freshly baked bread, and a bottle of red or white wine, depending on your taste.
The selection of entrees includes traditional Italian dishes served with chicken, seafood or veal and homemade pasta. Among their specialties is a delectable vitello parmigiana made of fried veal, red sauce with an interesting addition of carrots, and thin angel-hair spaghetti. If you’re a sodium lover, however, you may want to ask for a saltshaker as the spaghetti and red sauce is a tad bland.
Although Hector’s large windows, framed by deep red curtains, expose a disappointingly boring view, the inside décor of the restaurant makes up for it. Arches painted green and red inside and lined with bottles of wine make up one wall, while classic Italian portraits of the Leaning Tower of Pisa and Venetians manning gondolas populate the other walls. The simple array of creams and greens and browns surrounding the white tablecloth-laden tables make for a simple, yet classy atmosphere.
In addition to the excellent dinner-for-two deal, the friendly service is phenomenal and could be reason alone to visit this hidden treasure in Calvert Center.
