Polaroid, Faux-laroid on Your iPhone

Plus, Kate Spade goes dotty; VANS struck by lightening

Polaroid cameras may be dunzo, but the proliferation of faux-laroid apps available online eases the sting of progress. You can turn your digital images into the grainy, washed-out pics we knew and loved in the past -- and of course, that familiar white border tags along too. One of these programs is now available as an iPhone app (damned if we didn't see that one coming). Called ShakeItPhoto, it'll cost ya a mere 99 cents. Says a testimonial from the Web site: "This totally redeems the crappy default iPhone camera." See, it's only hip if you purposely try to make your pics crappy. Good to know.

We are dying inside, just a bit, because we're frantically trying to calculate how in the world we could afford Kate Spade's new Madeleine Dot Balloon-Sleeve Bow Blouse ($265). KateSpade.com shows several ways to style this top, including peeping out under a short-sleeved vest and worn with a full pleated skirt and bright tights. Made of 100 percent silk twill, the top includes a removable long tie, which can be knotted at the neck for a more extreme retro look, or removed for a more buttoned-down environment. Available at the Kate Spade store (3061 M St. N.W.) or online with free shipping.

Looks like Harry Potter finally got a pair of sneaks to match his forehead. We're not sure exactly why that's a good thing, but we know this splattery lighting bolt design just doesn't come along every day. These VANS SK8 HI Bad Brains sneakers are marked down to $47 from $69, which means happenin' dudes can get an early start on preparing to ditch the brown flip-flops that have plagued society all summer long. Available at Commonwealth (1781 Florida Ave. N.W.)
