All you Belgian beer lovers pay attention: Max's Taphouse is having its annual Belgian beer festival this weekend, Feb.13-15, and if past years are any indicator, the drive to Baltimore is worth it.
Since deeply grooved waffles may be their only other culinary claim to fame, the Belgians don't mess around with subpar beers, and Max's does not mess around with their festival - they have had five years to perfect it. There will be over 120 Belgian beers on draft, and another 175 in bottles. Just make sure you get in early, as the more popular beers go fast. If a purely liquid diet isn't your thing, Max's will also be offering a Belgian inspired menu, perfect for soaking up beer when you want to retain some semblance of sobriety.
It's not quite a full 72 hours of beer, since the bar has to close at some point and regroup for the next day of thirsty masses, but the 11 - 2 a.m. hours give you a full 15 hrs of drinking each day. That should be more than enough time to sample a good number of the beers, even if you don't exactly remember all of their names toward the end of the weekend. Just be sure to remember to look into the eyes of everyone you "cheers." A European rumor has it that failing to do so has unfortunate consequences for your sex life.

Max's Taphouse is reachable by Interstate 95 North (to Interstate 395), or Route 295. For out-of-towners, Max's has a deal with Courtyard Marriot Inner Harbor East. Call 443-923-4000 and ask for Max's Taphouse for the Belgian Fest book of rooms.
