Recruiting Courageous Cold-Climate Cyclists

Weather Is Not the Boss of You

D.C.'s most hardcore bicyclists now have incentive to keep pedaling through the winter months. Capital Bikeshare is introducing their Winter Weather Warrior Contest. The contest is a two-month-long biking competition that encourages bikers to use the rental stations even if they have to wear puffy jackets and thermal undies.

Starting on Jan. 1, cyclists can compete to take the most trips by Feb. 28.

The winner will receive a free, three-year extension of their Capital Bikeshare membership, two free annual memberships to give to friends or family, a $100 gift card to Hudson Trail Outfitters and a $25 gift card to Starbucks.

In addition, prizes will be awarded to the Long Haul Rider who takes the most trips over three miles, and Most Saddle Time to the rider with the most time spent on Capital Bike Share.

To enter the competition, riders must be annual or monthly members in good standing, and must opt into the contest.

Unfortunately for the lazy competitors, trips of less than five minutes do not count. However, trips on bad-weather days count as double. That includes days with a high temp that's still below freezing, days with frozen precipitation, and days with rain and a high below 50 degrees.
