José Andrés Dishing at 2012's Pink Tie Party

Black tie, white tie... meh! Once every spring, the recommended party attire is pink tie -- as in the Pink Tie Party, held this year on March 20 at the Mayflower Renaissance Hotel (1127 Connecticut Ave. NW).

Go to nosh on spring- and cherry-inspired food and cocktails from local restos such as 701 Restaurant, Bibiana, Equinox, Mie N Yu, Poste, Zaytinya and more, with chefs José Andrés and Roy Yamaguchi attending as hosts.

Tickets are steep at $200 -- and that's not counting the cash you'll be tempted to drop in the silent auction - but the price helps to keep the majority of the Cherry Blossom Festival free and open to the public.

The Pink Tie Party is the first (and fancy-pantsiest) event of the season, with the Cherry Blossom Festival officially kicking off on March 22.
