Next Up: “Restore Truthiness” Rally?

Group Petitioning Stephen Colbert to Hold a D.C. Rally

Never underestimate the power of ordinary people. People on the Internet.

A grassroots movement (meaning: Facebook group), "100,000 Strong to Restore Truthiness to the U.S. Capital," is petitioning Stephen Colbert to hold a rally at the Lincoln Memorial in "Fall 0'10," or Oct. 10 (101010).

There's also a website, and you know not just anyone can make one of those, after all!

America, we are at a crossroad. Truthiness in this nation is at an all-time low since the inception of the concept was founded by the great American, Stephen Colbert. In its rich history over the past five years, Truthiness has become synonymous with American values such as freedom, honor, and Taco Bell. Recently our nation has suffered a truthiness drain. In fact, untruthiness is as common as measles vaccinations that cause cancer. We as a nation have stopped relying on our emotions and gut. We need to get back to what makes this nation great. Act on impulse not fact. Stop wasting time analyzing and just take what people say on face value. Why think when someone else can think for you. It’s superficial. It’s quick. It’s American. Restore Truthiness now!

Think this will happen? Oct. 10 is a Sunday, and what are you really gonna do, just stay home and eat wings and watch football with all your friends? Meh.

"Given Colbert's love for his 'Nation' and ability to satire the Right so effectively, this almost seems like something Colbert would have thought of himself," writes Katla McGlynn of the Huffington Post.

McGlynn notes that Colbert's on vacation right now, but "it will be interesting to see if he addresses the petition when he returns to host 'The Colbert Report' next week."

Considering this is the same guy who tried to get an International Space Station module named after him, we're willing to bet he will.
