Miss D.C. Hopes to Hit Jackpot in Vegas

American University grad gunning for title of Miss America

Miss D.C. hopes to hit it big this month in Las Vegas.

Jen Corey, 22, is getting ready for the 2010 Miss America Pageant. She graduated from American University, and hopes to wow the judges with her voice. She’ll be singing opera for the talent portion.

She is also the only contestant with a “green” platform, as seen in her recent video vignettes for Goodwill. Here's an example:

Corey and Grammy-nominated artist Kokayi teamed up on the music in the video -- combining rap and Corey's opera talent.  You can hear more of their collaboration here.

If you’re interested in sending Corey off in style to Vegas, there’s an official event this week.

It takes place at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Institute for World Politics (1521 16th Street NW).

Donations of $25 to support the Miss D.C. scholarship program will be accepted.

The pageant takes place on Jan. 30. Brooke Catherine Poklemba of Westminster will represent Maryland. Caressa Cameron of Fredericksburg is representing Virginia.
