“Take Me Out to the Ball-Game” and “Stand By Your Man” will remain in U.S. culture forever. The Library of Congress will preserve recordings of the popular songs this year.
The songs are part of 25 recordings selected for preservation.
The 1908 of “Take Me Out to the Ball-Game” became the anthem for America’s favorite pastime.
The 1968 version of Tammy Wynette’s county song “Stand By Your Man” infuriated some women at the time.
The first recording of contemporary stand-up comedy is on the list, too. So are the tapes from the conservative political group GOPAC that laid out a strategy and message for Republican candidates between 1986 and 1994.
Librarian of Congress James Billington said the additions document history, entertainment and artistic expression.
Congress created the recording registry in 2000 to ensure significant audio recordings aren't lost.
