Hip-Hop Fest Kicks Off at KenCen

Five Nights of Free Events

Presented by the D.C. Commission on the Arts and Humanities, the Hip-Hop Theater Festival is back for another year, running July 6-10. With elements including MCing, DJing, dance, graffiti and spoken word, hip-hop theater tells its tales through a diverse urban language.

Kicking off with a DJ Showcase at the Kennedy Center with some of the best turntablists in the country, guests will include legendary Rockin’ Rob from the Bronx and DMC USA Supremacy Champion DJ I-Dee. The festival will keep it moving with presentations at the Studio Theatre and Dance Place.

The full program features a Late-Night Comedy Cabaret at Busboys and Poets (July 8), the annual J-Dilla Benefit Concert at the Black Cat (July 9), and the B-Boy Battle (July 10).

All events are free and seating is available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Some events are ticketed with tickets available online via RSVP.
