Happy Trails to You in Tenleytown

Plans for Neighborhood Tours and Celebration

5 Ways to Make the City Your Gym

Looking for something fun to do this weekend? How about strolling to the Top of the Town with your neighbors? A lot of folks will be doing just that in D.C.’s Tenleytown neighborhood Saturday. It’s being called Top of the Town: Tenleytown Heritage Trail.

The fun will include trail walks, guided tours and open house at American University’s Katzen Arts Center, where you can check out artsy exhibits, open studios and open rehearsals. You can also the historic Tenleytown fire station, the District’s second motorized fire station, stroll through the sanctuary of St. Columba’s Episcopal Church or join up for a ranger talk at Fort Reno.

Highlights from the trail also include:

    • The highest elevation in the District
    • Reno City, a once-thriving, post Civil War community of working-class African-American and white families
    • Wilson High School, whose alumni include Council Chairman-elect Kwame Brown, Councilmember Harry Thomas, Jr. and investor Warren Buffet.
    • The NBC Washington studios, where the second of the four 1960 Nixon-Kennedy debates took place. It’s also where Kermit the Frog started his career.
