See Spot Run: The First Annual Running of the Chihuahuas

The cutest Cinco de Mayo celebration around

Celebrate Cinco de Mayo on Saturday with some of the cutest Mexican natives around.

Andale as fast as your little legs will carry you to 7th Street Landing Park (7th and Water Streets SW) for the first annual Running of the Chihuahuas!

Bring your pup to race or cheer on your favorite contestant, all for a good cause.

Admission to the event is free, but there is a $20 race entry fee. Proceeds will go to benefit Paws of Southwest, an organization working to build a dog park in the Southwest Neighborhood of D.C.

In addition to the race, catch contests for best (dog) outfit, best trick, best pet/owner look-alike, and funniest pair. Prizes will go out to all winners, including a trophy and $150 in cash for the grand race champion.

You'll also find food, music and drinks available for purchase (with free water for dogs) at the race, and an official after-party at Cantina Marina (600 Water St. SW) following the event.

If you want to enter your chihuahua or chihuahuas mix, complete registration by May 3 to guarantee entry, but walk-ons will be accepted on a first come first serve basis if there are slots available. Race-day registration begins at 11 a.m. and the first race starts at noon. Tickets (and full race rules) are available online.
