Ooh, Look! Famous People Will Help You

Oh, you know you wanna go to the Health & Fitness Expo

NBC4's Health and Fitness Expo is this weekend, just in time for you to pick your shattered New Year's resolutions up off the floor of broken dreams. Attend fitness and cooking demos, grab info on gyms and events around town and get nutrition tips and tricks. And fortunately, you'll have a few famous faces to help you along the way.

"Today Show" co-anchor Hoda Kotb -- an Alexandria native, by the way -- will speak about her experiences as a breast cancer survivor on Saturday at 11 a.m.

At 1 p.m. Saturday, you can meet Abby and Shay, who had two of the most devastating -- and inspiring -- stories from Season 8 of "The Biggest Loser." Abby Rike, who lost her husband and two children in a 2006 car accident, lost 100 pounds by the show's finale. Shay, who grew up in foster care while her mom struggled with a drug addiction, started the show at 476 pounds and lost more than a third of her body weight by the finale.

If you're longing to be yelled at while shedding major weight (and seriously, who isn't?), head over on to the open casting call for the upcoming show "Losing It With Jillian Michaels," featuring the fierce trainer from "The Biggest Loser." OK, so Jillian herself won't be around, but stop by on Sunday between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. for your chance to get on the show.

News 4's Doreen Gentzler will host a discussion panel at noon each day. Saturday's focus: Using Marijuana Medicinally/Are There Healing Properties in Marijuana?, while Sunday's zeros in on the Mammogram Debate: How Significant Are Mammograms in Detecting Breast Cancer?

The expo is at the Washington Convention Center from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday. It's free, so the only thing you have to lose is weight, excuses and bad habits. Wow, sounds tough.
